Sioux Falls, SD --> Rapid City, SD

Day 6, Saturday
Heading to Rapid City, SD...

About to cross the Missouri.

75! Yes.

Part of The Badlands.

We ate dinner in Rapid City at a small organic restaurant which had a 3-piece string ensemble playing for Bastille Day. Although, they only played a few Spanish songs. They did an excellent rendition of Clapton's "You are wonderful tonight".

More to come tomorrow, on Mt Rushmore.

Cheers,
Jeff

My postings are GONE! I hate to think that they weren't approved by the blog author---maybe they are getting posted on someone else's blog? Anyway, this is my 4th attempt to comment. Glad you liked Sioux Falls----sorry you missed the replica (actual size) of the statue "David" (yes, a replica of the famous one). I can't remember who donated it, but it was placed by a major cloverleaf type intersection joining the Phillips Ave downtown area with the area on the other side of the railroad tracks (where Sears was located). Anyway, there was such an uproar about his uncovered genitalia that the statue was placed so it faces away from the roadway. I know I suggested you visit my birthplace and childhood homes ("the shrines") but since it didn 't get posted I know why you missed the opportunity.
When the pictures from South Dakota are visible on the blog site, I will identify the building that you photographed.
Enjoy Mt Rushmore!

Weird, but none of the Saturday or Sunday pictures are showing up for me....

The comments make me feel like I'm sitting in the car with a bunch of backseat drivers....

I did not realize South Dakota was so big. Driving across the state is the same distance as San Jose to Disneyland :-)

I finally went to see Wall Drug when I was visiting the state for my 20th high school reunion. Lots of rattlesnake ashtrays.
I went to college with the daughters of the family that owns it. Lots of moolah.

I own some Black Hills Gold. The gold rush was a huge thing in the state's history. The mine is in the north Black Hills. It is still producing. Homestake Mine.

When I was back for my reunion, Dances With Wolves was about one year old. Lots of signs and brouhaha. "Actual horses used in filming DWW". "See actual arrows used in filming DWW". Practically every exit on the interstate. Kevin Costner owned a casino in Deadwood, The Midnight Sun (I have a shirt from there). Did you go to Deadwood?
