Rapid City --> Custer State Park --> Boulder,CO

Day 7, Sunday: Rapid City, SD through Custer State Park, SD to Boulder, CO

Leaving Rapid City, we headed back up to Keystone/Mt. Rushmore area.

Interesting bridge design. I do not know how this works.

These pic's should need no explanation...

So, I have to admit, I imagined the mountain would be 3 or 4 times bigger than it is. Still an incredible feat out of granite.

On to Custer State Park...

There is a Custer Memorial in the park somewhere but we did not see it. The state park lies inside a national forest. Very scenic and tons of wildlife including many deer and buffalo. I just missed taking a pic of a road sign as we entered the park that read, "Buffalo are dangerous. Do not approach."

We rounded a bend, and came upon this...

Wild donkeys, couldn't drag me away...
The people in the pickup were feeding these guys, and several cars stopped to see what the heck was going on. Plus, the donkeys were blocking the road, so may as well pull over and take some pic's.

Aw, ain't he cute.

Tame and calm, they were.

I like this little guy. Girl?

My favorite. He walked right up to the car window.

Damn! The odometer changed from 2000 to 2001 while the camera was auto-focusing...

Cute little town near the South Dakota/Nebraska border.

Downtown Hot Springs...

Nice little waterfall, right downtown.

We cut across the northwest corner of Nebraska - about 50 miles worth. Nothing really important seen there, but I had to take at least 1 token photo in NE, so here is this nice butte...

Nebraska. 75mph. Yes!

Entering Wyoming...

Even less to see here than in Nebraska. A few enormous cattle ranches with no farmhouse in sight.

A long and windy-less Wyomin' road.

Of course, straight roads do have their advantages ;-)
Now that the car is broken in, I can have a little more fun.

Wyoming. 75mph. Yes.

Entering Colorado...

Getting close to Boulder. That's the base of the Rockies.

Finally in Boulder.

Pearl Street Mall for some Mexican at Juanita's.

Tomorrow, we head across/through the Rockies to Grand Junction.

Buenos noches, amigos,
Jeff

Could it be.... after driving 2000 miles... a picture of... THE CAR!!!

100MPH feels soooo good. Faster... Faster...

Yellowstone hands out Buffalo warning cards written in a dozen languages, but we still saw a group of tourists outside their car taking close-up pictures -- Until the Buffalo charged at them! No injuries, but they drove off quickly.

You could not find any statues in Hot Springs?

Pearl Street Mall, I've been there.
There are statues :-)

This is the best update, it has it all: Rushmore and Car, 100MPH, donkeys!
